Engineering Audit

Engineering Audit
Overview
An Israeli startup in civil engineering develops a platform for construction audits, offering guided workflows, smart map editing tools, and automated noise impact calculations.
Task
To redesign a complex multi-stage workflow for engineering audits in construction and significantly reduce the time needed for preparing permits. Another key objective was to build a specialized toolset for working with maps, diagrams, and noise calculations tailored to engineers’ real processes.

Context
In-house project at LET ME Design Agency

1. Architecture

The platform was designed to support three distinct roles: operator, engineer, and administrator. At the start, we carefully analyzed a multi-page PDF together with engineers to extract all requirements and build a future application architecture. Since the project was in Hebrew, the entire interface was designed right-to-left (RTL).

2. Projects

The projects are displayed in two modes: a table view with structured data and a card view with project photos. The page also includes a search, filter system, and status indicators to quickly track the progress of each project.

3. Project

The workflow was reimagined as a guided wizard with 4 stages:

  1. Filling in project details — address, construction type, and key parameters.
  2. Uploading project files.
  3. Working with diagrams and drawings in an interactive editor.
  4. Reviewing and exporting reports via a structured table.

4.Diagrams & Drawings

A specialized map and diagram editor was created, divided into five tabs, each dedicated to a specific engineering task:

  • Project Area Definition — the map is automatically loaded based on the project’s input data, and tools allow outlining the project boundaries.
  • Distance Measurements — distances to nearby buildings are measured, with results automatically recorded into a table that can be further edited by the operator.
  • Noise Sources — GIS data is integrated, and the operator fills in details about noise sources via an editable table.
  • Engineering Solutions — a two-step process: first, noise sources are added, and then calculations are performed to determine their impact on receivers.
  • Construction Phase — temporary noise sources for construction works are added, with calculations performed based on the entered data.

5. Additional Modules

  • Checklist — ensures the operator doesn’t miss critical data.
  • Comments — communication between operator and engineer directly inside the platform.
  • Notifications — alert users about important project data changes.

Impact

  • Reduced permit-prep time by 60% through a redesigned multi-stage workflow and a one-click export to regulator-ready PDF.
  • Shifted up to 50% of high-skilled engineering tasks to mid-level operators thanks to guided processes and automated checks.
  • Delivered a specialized map editor with layers, snapping, and automated calculations for faster, more accurate work.
